About Me!
Hi my name is David Bowers I am 26 years old, single and live in my hometown Plymouth, which is located in the southwest of England. I formed this site to record my experiences and photos of my travels around the world. This page you are reading now only contains information about me and my background for those who are interested.
I would like to say first know that my major passions in life (which have not changed since I was young!) are first to travel to as many countries, cultures and historical places as I can and the second is to own and run my own yacht (and of course sail it!).
The Early Years!
I had never been overseas or hardly even explored England until I first went to University. Instead I spend all my time in my home town and southwest of England where I undertook allot of local activities including, mountain biking, swimming, body boarding, snorkelling, horse riding, kayaking and of course the Scouts (for 10 years). My holidays where of the old family tradition of camping holidays in Cornwall!
It was also while I was still very young that I began building what would be my future career to this date as an engineer. My father use to do a great deal of major home DIY on the house, the cars and built up a workshop in the garden.
From this workshop and helping my father I picked up some very good hand on skills and began a variety projects. These projects and hobbies escalated into me going through college and University as a Robotics Engineer and led me to bigger home projects such as full car restoration.
Once I made it to University I soon made many friends from around the world and began my first trips overseas to France, Germany and Malaysia. From there on I became heavily interested in travelling where I could.
The Passion to travel goes into gear!
Just a few years ago and not so long after finishing University I quit my job as a robotics programmer in Algram and soon found myself in the shoes of a world wide worker for a service company in the oil industry. I specifically took this career mainly because I wanted a career that would allow me to travel around the world or give me the time and money to travel out side it!
This job took me too many new destinations such as Thailand, Indonesia, India, USA and Saudi Arabia, I saw some wonderful scenery and got a good idea of the local cultures while working with the in country staff.
I must say that I owe most of my travelling experiences to date firstly from my old job position of being a world wide service engineer for International Logging Inc and from invites from my international gang of friends. Some of my closest friends coming from Brazil, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Spain, Indonesia, India, South Korea and so on.
The Sailing Adventure Begins!
After saving up for a couple of years and satisfying my travelling thurst for a short spell I took time out from my busy service engineer life at the beginning of 2008 to undertake my second major passion which is sailing. It was always a dream to me to learn the ways of a sailor and to own my own yacht. As well as the ultimately dream to combine the two into a around the world sail (Maybe after I got my company up and running!).
I spent almost 4 months in Gibraltar training up as a Yachtmaster, during that time I sailed various boats around Spanish, Gibraltan and Morrocon waters. Of course I visited many ports and learned a great deal of knowledge about the boats, the sea and how to sail. It has to be the greatest experience so far in my life and I must give many thanks all my teachers and the staff at:
Now that I am trainined up and got my commerically endorced qualifications, I am planning to open my own boat charter company in Asia working within Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore waters. The company is called Chillout Sailing and although only recently formed I hope to get a yacht and business going as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading!
Dave
